About Course

The course is designed to provide a thorough grounding in the understanding of Fuel Tank Safety (FTS) related issues. In addition, it provides a comprehensive understanding of the regulatory requirement for effective FTS compliance. Covering the wide range of topics required by the amendments, from the investigation of historical events driving the legislation to its practical applications ensuring the continued airworthiness of affected aircraft, the course aims to succinctly and clearly communicate a complex and dynamic subject.

Course Objective

The course is designed to provide a thorough grounding in understanding Fuel Tank Safety (FTS) related issues. In addition to provide a comprehensive understanding of the regulatory requirement for effective FTS compliance.

Course Content

Phase 1

  • Be familiar with the basic elements of the fuel tank safety issues.

  • Be able to give a simple description of the historical background and the elements requiring a safety consideration, using common words and showing examples of non conformities.

  • Be able to use typical terms. Content: The course should include:.

  • a) A short background showing examples of FTS accidents or incidents.

  • b) The description of concept of fuel tank safety and CDCCL.

  • c) Some examples of manufacturers documents showing CDCCL items.

  • d) Typical examples of FTS defects.

  • e) Some examples of TC holders repair data.

  • f) Some examples of maintenance instructions for inspection.



Phase 2

  • The theoretical background behind the risk of fuel tank safety:

  • a) Ignition source prevention.

  • b) Flammability reduction.

  • The major accidents related to fuel tank systems, the accident investigations and their conclusions.

  • SFAR 88 of the FAA and JAA Interim Policy INT POL 25/12: modifications, airworthiness limitations items and CDCCL.

  • How to use and interpret this information in the instructions for continuing airworthiness related to FTS.

  • Fuel Tank Safety during maintenance.

  • Flammability reduction systems when installed.

  • Recording maintenance actions, recording measures and results of inspections.


Training is in English. Participants should have basic comprehension of the English language.

Exam & Certification


  • Course is approved by the Knowledge & Human Development Authority (KHDA) Ministry of Dubai.
